Research In Motion, who manufactures the Blackberry, expect the iPhone announcement to drive sales of Blackberrys.
"Hats off to Steve", co-Chief Executive Officer Michael Lazaridis said yesterday in an interview at CTIA. "He made smartphones cool again. Now everyone wants one. He helped the entire industry." Apple plans to sell 10 million iPhones next year which is equal to 1 percent of the global market, leaving room for RIM and Palm to see growth in sales of their smartphones.
"We complement each other really well,." said Lazaridis. "We both focus on two entirely different markets. One is pure consumer and pure consumable. One is pure function and pure productivity."
Editors note: While I agree the iPhone has increased awareness and increased the "cool factor" of smartphones, I would hardly call the iPhone pure consumer and consumable. The iPhone will most certainly offer function and productivity.
