According to a report from CNET, there have been widespread complaints about the iPhone 3G's reception. Are iPhone 3G users having trouble connecting and staying connected to 3G networks in their area?

A thread on Apple's discussion forum has almost 1,000 posts, but has since been locked, prompting a follow-up thread that is again seeing active posting. There have also been more than a few threads in our own iPhone forums. One frustrated owner has created a blog to bring light to the issues. A large percentage of owners will probably not seek out assistance in forums, so this might be more widespread than even these active threads suggest.

Users claim their iPhone 3G phones will switch between EDGE and 3G while the device is sitting still. I've experienced this issue myself and a bigger concern is the affect on battery life. According to AT&T's coverage map, I'm in a 3G coverage area. Users are also seeing dropped calls while travelling in a 3G-rich environment.

CNET made several inquiries to both Apple and AT&T, but they would not acknowledge that a problem existed.

Take part in our iPhone 3G reception poll and let us know how you are faring with AT&T's 3G service. You must be a member in our iPhone forums to take part. Not a member, register today. It's free and you'll have an opportunity to win a $199 Apple Store Gift Card as part of our Forum Membership Drive.
