John Dvorak has written an article for CBS Marketwatch in which he suggests Apple should "pull the plug on the iPhone". Given his history for baiting Mac users for his own popularity, it's clear this article is nothing more than a way to generate exposure for his column (which he has done).
Dvorak claims Apple has never stepped into, "advertising and expensive marketing" associated with the mobile phone market, saying,"It's a buzz saw waiting to chop up newbies". Apparently, he didn't read where the Apple iPhone has generated over $400 million in free publicity. Have Motorola or Nokia ever released a product that garnered this amount of free publicity. Even the deep pockets of Microsoft couldn't muster that amount of publicity during their Zune promotions.
"What Apple risks here is its reputation as a hot company that can do no wrong. If it's smart it will call the iPhone a "reference design" and pass it to some suckers to build with someone else's marketing budget. Then it can wash its hands of any marketplace failures", said Dvorak.
MacDailyNews has uncovered a video of Dvorak admitting to baiting Mac users with negative articles as a means of self promotion.
