3G iPhone Rumors Heating Up

Less than one year after the launch of the iPhone, reports have Apple working on a 3G capable iPhone that could be released as early as June of this year.

Bank of America analyst Scott Craig fueled speculation of the 3G iPhone saying, "Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after a initial small build in May." This news was coroborated by Current Analysis analyst Avi Greengart who said that Apple would likely bring out its 3G iPhone in June around the time it is expected to launch an upgrade to iPhone software. This week, the iPod Observer reported that a Gartner analyst thought Apple might have placed an order for 10 million 3G iPhones, based upon reports out of Asia. Gartner has since backtracked on this speculation, saying only that the analyst believes the next generation iPhone will support 3G. Clearly, that's a far stretch from Apple ordering 10 million high-speed capable iPhones. Gartner also expects the next generation iPhone to use an OLED display, which will offer significant improvements to battery life over the previous iPhone.

Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled for June 9-13 in San Francisco, which could be a possible venue for the announcement.
