AT&T Mobility's CEO Ralph de la Vega, while speaking at a recent AT&T event, confirmed the 3G iPhone is only months away.
He had mentioned that AT&T planned to have all of their smart devices supporting 3G in the next few months. Of course, the current iPhone does not support 3G leading to PC Mag journalist Sash Segan to ask if that included the iPhone. De la Vega responded, "Let me repeat what I said: I think that you're going to see our integrated devices be 3G devices in the not-too-distant future, and I mean months. That should be clear enough."
There have been reports of iPhone shortages, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Either this is a temporary shortage or Apple is clearing out inventory of the current model in anticipation of the newer 3G iPhone. Just last week, a report from Bank of America analyst Scott Craig fueled speculation of the forthcoming 3G iPhone saying, ""Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after a initial small build in May." Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled for June 9-13 in San Francisco, which many believe will serve as the perfect venue for the announcement.
