A group of students at the University of Toronto have completed something that could potentially replace all the remotes you have scattered around the house. It’s called the UiRemote (Universal Infrared Remote), for iPhone only at the moment. The UIRemote uses an IR accessory that plugs into the headphone jack. Of course, Apple does not allow iPhone accessories, so it doesn't bode well for an official release of this app. Still, all in all, it's an impressive project.
UIRemote controls TV, DVD, Cable boxes, etc. It even supports learning and macros. To view the demo, visit our iPhone videos section. via iPhone forums
