In a patent application filed by Apple, there are two designs that depict the iPhone in both horizontal and vertical orientations.

The patent application describes the technology as, "Methods and apparatuses for docking a portable electronic device that has a planar like configuration and that operates in multiple orientations." There is speculation the illustration of this particular iPhone accessory is also capable of docking a tablet PC. The iPhone dock would allow you to change the view by rotating the arm.
