GPush App Would Bring Push Gmail to iPhone

The Palm Pre has push Gmail and of course Google's own Android phones have push Gmail, so why not the iPhone? In the past, Google has been more than willing to deliver app updates to Apple's iPhone and in some cases before their own Android OS. A third party developer has stepped up to the challenge, with GPush, alerting you of new Gmail on your iPhone.

GPush for iPhone

GPush uses Apple's new push notification system to ping your iPhone everytime a new message hits your Gmail inbox. According to reports, it utilizes IMAP IDLE, similar to the Palm Pre and Android phones. The developer, Tiverias, notes that all the work is done on their servers as to not tax the battery life of the iPhone. That in mind, if you have a busy Gmail inbox, notifications could certainly have an impact on battery life.

GPush has not been approved yet. While it doesn't appear to violate the terms of service of either Apple or Google, will Apple find this competes with MobileMe? If it does land in the App Store, it will be priced at $0.99.
