The rumors previous to the official iPhone 5 event announcement also had the new iPhone sharing the stage with the iPad mini. It appears that’s not happening, but now comes word via 9to5mac that the iPhone 5 will have company. Not the iPad mini, but an update to the iPod line.
As many as two new iPods are expected to make their debut on September 12th, with a third possible. The source indicates that both new iPods will come in assorted colors. Given the iPod touch isn’t likely to be offered in an assortment of colors, that pegs these new models as being a new iPod shuffle and iPod nano.
The iPod touch was last updated in September of 2010, making it a bit long in the tooth. It would seem to reason that not only is it due for an update, but it would fit naturally at the iPhone, iPod event next week, rather than sharing the stage with the rumored iPad mini.
As for the iPad mini, it sounds like an October event might be in the cards.
