If you are planning to upgrade to the iPhone 5 and would like to use all the accessories you currently own, then you’ll need to purchase Apple’s Lightning to 30-pin adapter. It will be available in October, but you can order today. The price for backwards compatibility is a disturbing $29.

There is some question as to what extent this new connector will work with your existing iPhone accessories. As my podcast cohort points out, there is a small notation on the product site states: “Video and iPod Out not supported”.

If this does not support audio and video out, then exactly why would most folks spend $30? For sync and charge capability?

  1. Is it just me or does that look really fragile?? Picture this. Your iHome. Then the adapter on top of it. Then your taller new iPhone 5 on top of that tiny new connector. Looks like a balancing act waiting to go wrong. If you bump the phone, I hope that connecter doesn’t break off. It better be pretty durable.

  2. Dissapointing. I use a Fiio line out adaptor for my headphone amp. Will have to wait for a Lightning version if I do upgrade to the 5.

This is NOT a “Dock Adapter”, retard. It’s just a Lightning to 30-pin adapter. Try using this thing on a dock.
