We’ve heard all sorts of rumors about when Murdoch’s much discussed iPad daily paper — appropriately called “The Daily” — will launch, and the assumed iOS update that will allow in-app subscriptions. Originally it was rumored that they were trying for a December launch, but then we heard that may be pushed back to early 2011 — a view now reinforced by AllThingsD, who are reporting the paper will launch January 17. According to Peter Kafka’s sources, the 17th is the best bet, but the launch date has mover around a number of times recently.
Given that News Corp. has hired dozens of blabby journalists for The Daily, and interviewed many more, lots of other details about the app/service have leaked out already: It will come out daily, it will sell for 99 cents a week, it will use lots of video, it will have cool multimedia bells and whistles, including some of kind 3-D effect that lots of people are very excited about. And Apple CEO Steve Jobs may or may not participate in a launch event.
Lets see if this is enough to pull in the hip young kids, what with their blogs and whatnots!
