Last night at a fan event in NYC, Major League Baseball announced they would be expanding support for Passbook mobile payments to 13 ballparks this season. That number is up from 4 last season, with the Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A’s, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. The New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals all accepting Passbook for the 13′ season.
The MLB was among a few that were highlighted during the launch of Passbook, the mobile payments feature that debuted in iOS 6. It has been slow to gain adoption, as it continues to have a limited number of participants.
MLB has been rather active as of late, with an announcement earlier this week of this year’s edition of MLB At Bat, offering up to 200 hours of live Spring Training baseball.
