A rumor last night from The Wrap has Microsoft launching a tablet intended to compete with the iPad. The entertainment site isn’t known for tech news, so this source is somewhat surprising. The event is supposedly scheduled for June 18th at an undetermined venue. The Microsoft manufactured tablet certainly would not be the first tablet product with intentions of grabbing marketshare for the iPad. Many have gone down that road and few have any palpable levels of success.
Despite a unique and very good operating system, Microsoft’s Windows Phone has had a difficult time penetrating the smartphone market. The tablet market might prove to be even more difficult to gain traction. Shipping a product, a good one, might be a good start. But how do you compete with the iOS app ecosystem?
I wonder if we’ll see another funeral procession? The first one worked out so well.
