There have been few apps that have attempted to replace the default Mail app for iPhone, if you call Gmail your primary location for email. Sparrow, recently purchased by Google, was the last to gain some traction as a possible alternative. A new entry is on the horizon that looks promising. The Verge offers a walkthrough an app titled ‘Mailbox’ from Orchestra. Coming in early 2013, the app has a beautiful interface, reminiscent of Sparrow and the popular minimalist to-do list Clear.
Out of the gate, Mailbox comes with support for push notifications. As shown in the preview video demo, there are a number of swipe actions (four in total) which takes a fresh approach to managing mail on mobile devices.
The message compose window is more tweet-like, enabling email to feel more like a conversation. The other major feature is the ability to delegate messages for later. This being an app for use with Gmail, it creates a later label where you can access this group of emails. This is great for those searching for the ever-elusive inbox zero.
