The Kindle app for iOS has just been updated to version 3.1, and with it brings some major new features and tweaks. The big change is new support for graphically heavy files — namely children’s books, comics, and graphic novels. The iPad version also has tightened the margins, arguably for a better reading experience.

Here’s the changelog:

iPad users:
- Read children’s books, comic books, and graphic novels with beautiful layout and full color. Over 1000 children’s titles are available including Brown Bear and Curious George and comics such as Batman and Superman.
- Improved reading experience on iPad: Smaller margins and a cleaner look help you focus on the author’s words.

iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch:
- Search: Quickly locate your content by searching for a title or author.
- Google and Wikipedia: This update fixes an issue that prevented lookup of words on Google and Wikipedia.

  1. I am annoyed with the update. Instead of just shrinking the margins, they should be giving users the ability to adjust their margins. I would much prefer larger margins than I have since the update.

    • Totally agree. It’s unreadable now and it even covers part of top line with the new upper menu. The complaints go on for pages and pages on the app store site. Thank God I’m not crashing like so many people. Kindle then recommends unregistering, deleting app, reinstalling, reregistering. Really?? I won’t download another book until another update. Unbelievable decisions on all levels. Tons of people are leaving for iBooks. I guess amazon wanted to lose customers.
