Amazon seems determined to make the Kindle ubiquitous, and it’s currently available on just about every platform on the planet. The iOS version just received a significant update, with a major new feature that allows you to add your own files:

• Continue downloading books while the app is in the background on iOS 4 devices.
• Access millions of free and out-of-copyright books from Project Gutenberg, Internet Archive, and other online sources. Open supported files from Safari and Mail or use File Sharing in iTunes to transfer files to your Kindle app.
• Improved image zoom
• New book indicator
• Bug fixes

Amazon has also put the app up in the Mac App Store, where it currently sits at #3 on the Free charts. I get the feeling this isn’t any different to the previous Mac version, except that you can buy it through the app store, and it has the usual syncing and sharing between multiple devices that makes Kindle a pleasure to use across many platforms. Your move, iBooks.
