Jury Finds Samsung Infringed On Apple Patents

A federal court jury has found that Samsung has infringed on six of the seven patents that Apple claimed the smartphone manufacturer had violated. As a result of tonight’s victory, Apple was awarded $1.05 billion. Samsung’s patent infringement claims were rejected, resulting in zero damages.

While the damages are significant, the findings will no doubt have a major effect on Samsung’s smartphone portfolio. It remains to be seen if this will end up in products being removed from sale, but Apple will certainly look for infringing products to be banned from sale in the US. This legal battle is far from over, but this is a major win for Apple.

  1. But a billion?? And more troubling was the short time it took the jury to reach the verdict on so many issues. They apparently didn’t devote much attention to detail; they even awarded money on issues they found weren’t in violation.
