Judge Orders Apple, Samsung To Narrow Litigation

gavel2 Judge Orders Apple, Samsung To Narrow Litigation

The seemingly never-ending legal battle between Samsung and Apple continues on course for a trial in 2014. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh, who is presiding over the case, has told both parties they need to “focus and streamline” their cases. Koh has imposed limits to 25 patent claims and 25 products.

“We’ll keep narrowing and narrowing,” Koh said. “You’ve already been litigating this thing for a year; you must know something about what’s your best case.”

Included among these complaints are Samsung’s Galaxy SIII and Apple’s iPhone 5. Last month, Koh overruled the jury that found Samsung’s acts of patent infringement willful. The result of this ruling by Koh means that Apple will not be eligible for damages for willful infringement.
