On stage today, Steve Jobs began by saying, “we’re not perfect. Phones aren’t perfect. But we want all of our users to be happy.” He then went on to say the iPhone 4 is possibly the best product they’ve ever made, selling three million in three weeks. It also has the highest customer satisfaction of any iPhone or smartphone.
In the 22 days since launch, and early reports of the antennae problem, Apple has been “working [their] butts off.”
He went on to explain that this happens to all phones in one way or another, showing a number of other phones dropping reception when held wrong: a Blackberry Bold dropping from 5 bars to 1, Droid Eris from 4 to 0, Samsung Omnia 4 to 1.
Jobs effectively demonstrated that this is certainly not an issue just limited to the iPhone 4, and is a problem for the entire industry.
He explained that the faulty algorithm for displaying the bar made it far more obvious when it was occurring, and the break between the antennae on the case was visually interesting enough that people were naturally drawn to holding it there.
They new the iPhone 4 had this issue, but so do all phones, and they didn’t think it would be a problem.

I agree. All phones have this issue.
All phones has an issue when held incorrectly to block the attenna. Whoever is not satisfied just return your phones or sell it to me?
Not agreed. I had tried to mimick their results and the iPhone 4 had gotten the highest signal lost. The other phones didn’t have a huge signal lost as Apple had stated on their website.
so if they know that if you touch ONE spot and it causes reception problems, then why couldn’t they design it with some small covering to prevent this issue? i mean if something like duct tape can fix it, then clearly apple could have designed something that would have been hardly noticeable on the phone that would prevent this issue.
pointing fingers does not a problem solve.
