Trying to decide if you like a song enough to buy it based on a 30 second snippit is tricky — unless you listen to techno, in which case you just repeat that segment over and over, and it’s just like the real thing. According to Symphonic Distribution, Apple has sent out the notice above to publishers telling them that the preview length is now being extended to 90 seconds — that’s right, a minute and a half of the song for free. This is only happening to songs longer than 150 seconds in length.
If the labels aren’t happy with this, they have to pull their songs of iTunes. Owch.
