Apple has unleashed a completely refreshed iTunes Festival app in time for the SXSW event taking place next week. Though it was rumored to require iOS 7.1, the update started appearing today in the App Store, ahead of the iOS 7.1 release. The new iTunes Festival app features a new iOS 7 inspired design that is compatible with both iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Earlier this week, the typically reliable John Gruber, had heard that the iTunes Festival app update required iOS 7.1. While the expectation remains that iOS 7.1 will be released very soon, it turns out that the iTunes Festival app was not being held up by a required software update. The current build lists iOS 7 as the minimum requirement.
This year’s iTunes Festival marks the first time it will be held in the United States. The event at SXSW will feature top artists including Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull, Keith Urban and ZEDD. This app is an interactive multimedia accompaniment to the event with features that are available for a limited time, including streaming and on-demand video, photos, and more.
