Boy Genius has reported on a tip about the next update to iTunes that may include Blu-ray support as well as a method by which iPhone and iPod touch users can visually organize apps directly on their computer.
No computer in Apple’s current line-up offers Blu-ray support at this time, though recent rumors point to an update to the iMac to include it. BGR’s source also mentioned that iTunes 9 will include some sort of social networking integration, though the specifics of this are unknown. When it comes to arranging apps, iPhone and iPod touch users can currently only accomplish this on the device directly, which can be difficult when moving apps across several home screen pages. BGR’s “pretty reliable source” states that iTunes 9 “will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications.”
iTunes is currently at version number 8.2.1 and a release date for the rumored iTunes 9 is not yet known. However, Apple has held an iPod-focused event in September in past years and such an event would be an ideal time to announce an iTunes upgrade. Apple has not yet made an announcement about an event in September this year, though this is not out of line with previous behavior, with event invitations going out around only one week in advance in the past.
