Apple tonight opened up pre-orders for the iPhone 5 at 3 o’clock EST. Despite it being the middle of the night, their servers could not initially handle all of the traffic. We’ve heard of varying success using the Apple Store iOS app. In an odd twist, some including myself have been able to access the Apple Store using Google’s Chrome browser, when Apple’s own Safari would show the store as being down. Other options include carrier stores, which have also had trouble with the onslaught of traffic.
The only option when preordering is to have the iPhone 5 shipped. At the present time, you can preorder for pickup at your local Apple Store.

I scouted all of the websites tonight, er morning. Lol Verizon very sneakily opened their pre-orders at 1:55am. AT&T’s page opened at 2:12am. Sprint’s opened at 2:42am. And Apple’s own page finally opened at 2:46am. These are all in Central Standard Time. I don’t know if others had luck with AT&T, Sprint, or Apple’s pages loading earlier. These are just the times they loaded for me. However, I was able to pre-order my phone off of Verizon at 1:55! =) I was able to pick up a 32GB iPhone for $249.99 with my upgrade discount.

Yeah super quick this year! wound up upgrading my line as it turned out to save money in the long run. And now we play the waiting game.
Was on the PC for the Apple store… Nothing and didn’t see this post until just now, but just decided to order both phones on Verizon and had no issues!! Then went back and ordered off Chrome for the Nano and Touch as well… Yep, that hurt the bank account!!
Got a 16GB, Black 1! Did all others get a 2 week ship time from Apple store or just me?
I woke up at 3am EST and tried the Apple Store with Chrome on my PC. A message came up that they “We will be Back” or something (remember its 3am) and it kept changing languages. I picked up my iPhone 4S, opened the Apple Store App and it checked my carrier (AT&T) let me pick color, size, use my Apple ID, verified credit card and Checked out. I had the email confirmation instantly and was back in bed by 3:08am. WAY FASTER than last year.
