The first round of specs gathered for the iPhone 5 showed the device running a 1GHz dual-core A6 processor — but it looks like the chip might actually be much faster than that. The app Geekbench has been updated to better calculate the processor speed of the iPhone 5, and it turns out it actually clocks in at 1.3GHz.
Primate Labs — who make the software — talked to Engadget, and claimed the update:
“features a dramatically improved processor frequency detection algorithm, which consistently reports the A6′s frequency as 1.3GHz…earlier versions of Geekbench had trouble determining the A6′s frequency, which lead to people claiming the A6′s frequency as 1.0GHz as it was the most common value Geekbench reported.”
It seems the A6 processor is also able to downclock when necessary, too.
