Is Apple Planning a Waterproof iPhone 5?

According to a report from Pocket-Link, Apple along with other companies including Samsung are interested in a new technology that essentially makes devices waterproof. Utah based HzO, a ZAGG company, has a WaterBlock coating technology that is applied to both internal and external components.

“We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn’t believe his eyes,” a representative of the company told us. “Samsung is really excited by the tech.”

The company has told us that they are also talking to Apple as well, hoping to be able to let Apple make the iPhone 5 waterproof.”

There were a fair number of Apple employees on the show floor, so it wouldn’t be surprising that they would find themselves at the HzO booth. While it’s feasible that Apple would look at waterproofing their new iPhone, it’s still not clear what goes into the process in order to make this happen, not to mention additional costs. Don’t be surprised if some Android manufacturer jumps on this first in an effort to differentiate themselves from the increasingly competitive Android phone market.
