Is the iPad 3 Going to be Announced by Apple in January?

The rumor mill is spinning today as the iPad 3 is being discussed.  Major news source Digitimes has written an article which states the iPad 2 will remain as a low cost tablet competing directly with Amazon’s Kindle Fire, while the iPad 3 will be announced in 2 varieties.  One would expect the difference to be the screen sizes.  Rather Digitimes is reporting the screen size (9.7 inch), upgraded resolution (2,048 x 1,536), upgraded A6 Processor, upgraded battery, and upgraded LED Backlighting will be identical among them.  The difference?  The camera.

The camera on the iPad 3′s will reportedly be available either as 5MP or 8MP.  This report will probably shock most as the camera is likely not the main difference people would expect from a dual release such as this.  I would be looking at something of higher impact on an iPad such as the screen resolution, processor, or battery.   The rumor states the announcement will come in the January 26th event, iWorld.  I suggest taking this rumor with a grain of salt.

  1. I agree with you Mike. I’m throwing the BS flag on this rumor from Digitimes. A camera is not a differentiator to me, its a compliment. The full absorbtion component cost and the corresponding benefit of a 5mp versus a 8mp cannont be enough for Apple to have two mutually exclusive versions.
Give me some more beef between the two versions if you want me to get the upgraded one.
