Irish developer James Whelton has succeeded in the first hack of the iPod Nano. It’s still at the very, very early stages — this isn’t jailbroken, nor has root access been gained. Rather, he’s managed to get into the springboard, and has figured out how to remove apps from the device, and replace them with a blank space.
Yes, it’s a small step, but an important one, and one that will hopefully lead to a full jailbreak and the ability to run outside apps in the near future. If the AppleTV has taught us anything, it’s that once someone figures out a way in, it doesn’t take long for it to get exploited.
