Earlier this month, we reported that iPhone5Mod had cracked the Lightning authentication system, and it now looks like they’re ready to start taking orders and getting you cut-priced versions of cables.
If you’re just in need of another Lightning cable, their version will set you back $9.90 as opposed to $19 from Apple. Unfortunately, paying $4 in shipping means the Lightning cable is now only marginally less expensive than the official Apple version.
iPhone5Mod has also announced a Lightning to dock adapter for $19.90 + $4 shipping, and a trio of dock, cable, and adapter for $39.90 plus shipping.
According to MacRumors, orders will start shipping out on November 3rd.
As always, there are major caveats with buying products like these. The technology behind Apple’s Lightning authentication is only just getting unravelled, and there’s no telling what sort of quality these cords could be. They might be fine, or they might charge but not sync, or they might damage your device. There’s no way of knowing. Unless you’re desperate, it probably wouldn’t hurt to wait for the kinks to get ironed out.

It really shouldn’t cost $4.00 to ship a cable. I’d rather go to apple and spend $5 extra and get the real thing.
I ordered some … as long I get it before Christmas I am good. Makes a nice stocking stuffer !
