Cult of Mac is reporting that T-Mobile will most likely get the iPhone in Q3, breaking AT&T’s USA stranglehold on the device. They talked to a “highly placed source”, who says there’s an 80% chance that T-Mobile will get the device in this time period.
T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, already carries the device in Germany.
Since T-Mobile is a GMS based network, which makes current iPhones compatible — whereas if Apple were to align with Verizon, they would need a completely redesigned phone.
If this rumor is true, it’ll signal a major sea change for the American market, and hopefully a price/feature war that will benefit consumers.

I called this a while ago, only because they are the most logical company of the other 3 major carriers, AND they already do business with Apple over-seas. It just makes sense.
The bad news about this would be T-Mobile’s network is not AT&T’s, and that in itself could lead to some roaming problems for it’s customers here and there. Otherwise, it shouldn’t be too bad.
I think this is the option a LOT of people are secretly looking for.
Unfortunately, this is only a rumor, so until someone announces something actually happening, It’s about as substantial as a fart in the wind.
I hope they get it because I am a customer and that would mean competition which would lead to cheaper prices. Please be true.
Learn that in High school Econ?
T-Mobiles coverage is worse than AT&T’s. Only benefit is there would be some competition.
I wonder if the AT&T handsets would work on the T-Mobile network. I’m referring to the situation with the phone being LOCKED. I know that there are some people on T-Mobile USA with iPhones but they are JB units. I don’t know if I’d jump from AT&T because I’m not experiencing the problems others are having. If I was, I don’t even know how I’d switch. I guess I’d be able to sell my locked ATT handset, pay the ETF and say hello to T-Mobile.
Look at their maps and I think most people will pass.
If T- Mobile gets the phone and the plans get cheaper, wouldn’t the people staying with AT&T have to switch plans which would in turn void your unlimited data plan? I really don’t want to get rid of the unlimited plan…
this is no surprise to me as I heard the same thing from an average T-Mobile service rep when I was updating my plan with them about two weeks ago. She said T-Mobile would have the iPhone by the end of the year.
My buddy went on AT&T lastnight, he’s on t-mobile now but wants a iphone4. AT&T now wants $45. For new customers! For 2 gigs of data! He said there is no way in hell I’m paying that! This seems like a really bad move on at&t’s part, making money hand over fist and losing potential customers just as fast! What a joke! It’s an outrage is what it is!
He’s going with sprint, evo2 unlimited 3G/4G data and text for $99 a month! That’s about $30 to$40 cheaper per month!
Take a hint AT&T this new business model isn’t going to work for new customers. Period!
