Coming in with a whopping 4% of the market, the iPhone 3G is officially the most popular phone in the USA, according to a study by Nielson. It’s a shade above the Blackberry 8300 series, and then the RAZR V3.
While 4% of the market share may not seem like a great deal, given the sheer breadth of phones on the market, it’s still an impressive. Also according to the report, 21% of households are now cellphone only (no landline) and 15% have at least one smartphone. That last one’s an interesting point, because it reminds us that 85% of the population of the United States don’t have smartphones, and most likely don’t need them. It’s very easy for us to focus heavily on the iPhone/Android/Pre/Blackberry wars, but for most people, it doesn’t enter the equation.

Awesome news!=)
85% not having a smartphone also means that the market for smartphones will likely grow as price goes down.
