Cingular obtained a multi-year exclusivity on the iPhone before Apple started work on the project. It's an exclusive multiyear agreement, which means no other carrier will be able to sell the iPhone through 2009. Cingular is a GSM-based network, so Apple would also have to develop a CDMA based iPhone to be compatible with Verizon Wireless. Depending on the popularity of the iPhone, you can expect Verizon Wireless to pursue an agreement with Apple when the exclusivity ends.

does this include the iphone 3g? anyways i have AT%T for my provider and i can say nothing but BAD things for it. the service sucks in wisconsin, the only places i get it good is in milwaukee, and madison. this sucks because i live in a city of 23500 people. my plan is up at November, and i will switch to verizon wireless. although the cell phone is not available to anyother users than Cingular, there is an unlocked version to that phone. look it up on ebay, thats what im currently trying to do.

Everything, I mean everything, I have read and researched ed on this iPhone indicates that Cingular service sucks. It SHOULD BE about time for Verizon to listen to their customers and get into the mix of things!!! We shouldn't ahve to wait for any multi-exclusive anything!!!!

Consumers have a way to change the system by voting with their money. If no one purchased a new plan to buy a phone, the industry would have to change it's tactics by making the phone availabe through all carriers. I cannot stand being told I have to change carriers in order to purchase a phone. I was really excited about the iphone, but I refuse to change carriers in order to purchase it, especially to Cingular/AT&T. :*(

At least in my region, Verizon is the only wireless carrier that has decent service. I left Cingular/ AT & T for that reason. Despite, the exciting nature of the IPhone's release, I will not be going back to Cingular till well into the future. That said, Verizon customers. Take Heart, by the time the bugs are worked out of this " Version ".. Our network will have a Real Product.
