There are two pieces of software that do it. Try googling SyncJe for iPhone. Wireless sync of contacts, calendar and notes. Combined with SynJe for Outlook and it does exactly what is asked.

iPhone only syncs with Outlook Contacts & Calendar. Email syncs with an IMAPI Exchange server only. It does not sync with the Outlook folders on your desktop.

That's not quite true. My iPhone does sync with Outlook contacts and appointments, weather entered in Outlook on my PC or on the iPhone.

ATT store personnel told me IPhone will not sync with Outlook (email, calendar, and contacts), but a patch is supposedly coming out. They emphasized this three times, so I left without a phone. Another site also says no sync, or difficulty syncing. It appears though that it does sync?

This is not correct - iTunes connects to Outlook to sync contacts, etc with the iPhone. Calendar sync doesn't currently work very well, as the forums on this site show.

After looking through this site, and especially after reading the highly misinformed answer to this one-question PC/iPhone FAQ, I think I'm going to look for a different iPhone site to browse.

This is a false FAQ. iPhone uses iTunes plugin in outlook to sync iPhone with Outlook. Here is url on Apple site.

According to the email theat AT&T and Apple sent out to everyone who signed up for more info, "iPhone uses iTunes to sync with the calendar application you already use on your computer?iCal or Entourage on the Mac, or Outlook on a PC?just like it does with your contacts." So yes, it will sync with Outlook.
