Since purchasing my iPhone 3G, I have been emailing files to myself that I wanted to refer to at any place (ie son's football schedule). However, it was cumbersome to move them to folders in the email program, search the old emails, etc.
Air Sharing was recommended and it solved that problem! I set up multiple folders (on my PC and via my Mac) and then organized the various reference files that I wanted to carry with me. They are at no more than two touches of the iphone screen away.
Typically I send PDF files to just make sure they stay formatted, but Word documents, pictures, Excel etc all show up fine.
The instructions for set up (which come on the phone with the program) are very detailed and very easy to set up. I have the folder mapped on my PC and it shows up as another hard drive on my Mac. Another nice feature is that the App keeps the phone from auto locking based on a setting you create so that you can move files around, create folders, and organize your items. Once the phone locks (goes to the black screen) the folder disappears on the PC or Mac.
The only feature that I see needing that I cannot figure out how to do is to email one of the files. This could come in handy if you wanted to send a business contract or share a schedule.
Air Sharing is a utility to transfer and view most document types from you workstation to your iPhone. I have found this utility quick and very easy to use. I have transferred PDF, Word and Excel documents wirelessly with no problems. Connection to my MacBook Pro was also very easy to accomplish. I have seen a couple of issues in regards to Excel spreadsheet. If the document has several tabs, I can only access the first page. In addition if I have an Excel document that is very wide, when you scroll over to the last cell and release your finger, the view snaps back to Cell A1 and will not hold where you originally wanted to view. But all in all a very good application and for a limited time a great price, FREE!
This is the easiest file management app available. No need to install a desktop application with this one, this shows up as a device like a hard drive. You can even share a web page with others too.
This is a must have app and I've deleted the other four I was using. So in one word this is "Wow" !!
This is one the best apps on the app store it allows you to use your iPhone like a networked USB drive and lets you view files. It's very easy to setup and works great with Mac or Windows XP/Vista. It was a little difficult to setup on Vista as the webdav support on Vista needs patched. If anyone is having problems mounting the network share on Vista, google vista webdav fix and click on the first link. It should lead you to Microsoft's website where you can download Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306). After installing the update Air Sharing should be able to connect flawlessly to your Windows Vista machine.
This program has made my life a lot easier when it comes to sending files to my iPhone 3G and viewing them. Works great, no wonder it is currently the number one free app on the app store. Although it's only free for a limited time so hurry up and start downloading while you have the chance to save some money.
Grab this one while it's still free, folks (Until the 22nd, I believe)! This has quickly become one of my favorite utilities.
Air Sharing allows you to use your iPhone as a web hard drive via wifi. The included help file gives easy instructions for setting up your OSX or Windows desktop. Barring any non-standard router configurations you may have, setup takes less than a minute, and then you're dragging and dropping files from/to the computer and iPhone. It's really quite simple.
The best part, though, is the built-in media and document viewers. Basically anything you can play or view on an iPhone is fair game here... documents, audio, video, PDF's, JPG's, etc. There are several handy uses for this:
Play an audio file on your phone without syncing it through iTunes first.
"Hide" media that you don't want showing up in your iPod
Transfer and view full-resolution images on the iPhone with iTunes "optimization" and compression.
I'm sure you can think of other uses, but for these three alone, I would pay the full price for this. But if you hurry, you don't have to!
