Apple may have doubled down on security, but you wouldn’t know it based on the numerous amount of information regarding the upcoming iPhone 5S. To go along with yesterday’s iPhone 5C casing photos and video, we now have what appears to be the back shell of the upcoming flagship model. The familiar colors of black/slate and white/silver remain unchanged. If these images from ascii.jp are the real deal, the third color will be gold. As one would expect, Apple’s going with a more subtle, yet fashionable champagne color. This won’t be a tacky, over-the-top gold and black. Expectations are for Apple to go with champagne and white for the Kim Kardashian model.
First things first, the size of the iPhone 5S appears to be identical to the existing model. Don’t expect any changes to the display. Things could change, but it appears that this year will not bring us a bigger display on the iPhone, which frankly will disappoint some customers. That could lead some folks to transition from the iPhone to the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S4.
China has a history of doing a pretty fair job of knock-offs. These have all of the appearances of being manufactured for Apple. If you look at the font used, the gold model matches the Helvetica-Neue, a font that plays a big part of the UI changes in iOS 7. What’s odd is that change isn’t on the black/slate casing shown in these photos? Things could change before September 10th, but odds seem fairly good that will see a similar, if not the same back plate when Tim Cook reveals the iPhone 5S. It also wouldn’t surprise if a gold or should we say ‘Champagne’ model also made its debut.
Still many questions abound. Will Apple move to a 128GB model? Will the gold iPhone 5S be available in all storage configurations? Thankfully, we’ll get those answers and more in a matter of weeks. As for release dates, a likely window would be between September 23rd and September 27th. Pre-orders could begin as early as September 19th or 20th.
