iPhone 5 To Have New Dock Connector, Headphone Jack Moved To Bottom

A repot today from Reuters confirms previous rumors of a new dock connector coming to the iPhone 5. Apple will drop the longstanding 30-pin dock for a new 19-pin dock connector. Part of the reasoning behind the move is to make room for the headphone jack, which will also see a move to the bottom of the new iPhone.

This move was inevitable and appears to be happening this fall when the new iPhone is released, if rumors of an October release are to be believed. iPhone accessory manufacturers are likely embracing for the impact of the change. While you can expect adapters to be available from Apple, there will be a surge in demand for accessories that work with the new standard.

Having a new smaller dock connector also pays dividends on the internals, making room for a larger battery, one that will be needed to accommodate a larger screen and LTE 4G. Both features widely anticipated with the iPhone 5.

Accessory manufacturers are likely bracing for the change…while EM-bracing the potential for increased sales. Just sayin’ :^))
