iPhone 5 To Get Waterproof Coating?

Those of you who owned an older iPhone probably remember what life was like before the oleophobic coating of the iPhone 3GS. Those things would smear with your greasy pawprints like you wouldn’t believe, and adding the coating made a massive improvement — so you know how much of a difference that can make. So what about a waterproof coating, to protect against the vagaries of foul weather?

Today’s iPhone (who I freely admit to not knowing their track record) are claiming that the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III will come with a Liquipel coating. The company already lets you ship them your phone, and they’ll coat it and send it back, but the claim is now that the iPhone 5 will come with that built in.

The source is well-placed in one of the UK’s top independent phone retailers. He states that both the next iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S III will have Liquipel treatment. The Liquipel coating covers both inside and outside the phones to make it water repellent, making them less susceptible to liquid/moisture damage.

He stated “both will have had liquipel treatment as they’ll be altering the wording on insurance.”

Hey, if it prevents water damage, I’m all for it!

I think it’s definitely possible, but won’t rollout until the 6, 7 or 8 versions.
