These photos were sent to BGR via a contact of theirs at AT&T. A customer brought in their iPhone to an AT&T to get it replaced, as it had spontaneously caught fire. It seems that this unit had a defective dock port, which caused the phone to superheat, charring the USB cable, and giving the owner a minor burn on their hands.
Thankfully, this is the only word we’ve heard so far of any such combustibility issues with the iPhone. I’m sure this is just an isolated incident, you shouldn’t expect your iPhone to be a hand grenade.

I sure hope that is an isolated incident. I wonder if Apple would like the unit back so that their technicians can look at try to figure out the true cause of the fire. I’m glad the owner only had minor burns. I can see the headlines on the DROID forums now. iPhone 4 now comes with an iExtinguisher!!
My guess is the idiot did not have the unit plugged in straight, it shorted and the wire arched repeatedly until it over heated/melted and caught fire. Once again… operator error!
Pretty harsh words for pure speculation…
^^Steve Jobs
Lmao. “Steve jobs”… “Just don’t hold it that way.” then you won’t burn yourself.
I’ve noticed the iPhone 4 gets pretty warm during charging and heavy usage. With just glass on the back you can really feel the heat. Probebly gets hotter with a case on it to make the antenna’s work better lol! Still love this phone!
Going to use the quote from the comments from the BGR article.
“Just don’t charge it that way”.
HAHAHA ! Iphone 4 changes everything! fuck that shit!
