A Gartner analysis released recently showed that the revenue for the entire tablet industry last year was $9.6 billion — and Apple made up $9.566 billion of that. If those numbers all gel, we’re looking at the entire Android/Windows/whatever tablet market as making a mere $34 million, dragging behind Apple to a frankly ludicrous amount.
As if we need confirmation that the iPad is still the only game in town.
My only worries come down to how these numbers have been calculated. It gets remarkably tricky to truly figure out equivalent dollar amounts when all the companies do their bookkeeping in slightly different ways.
That’s a hell of a head start Apple has, but this year seems to be the one where Android mounts a credible thread for tablets, so we’ll see what happens.
