As we head into the final hours before Apple’s CEO takes the stage to announce the third generation iPad, sources are telling The Verge that it will not include the quad-core A6 system-on-chip as previously rumored. Instead, Apple will use the A5X, which had been the subject of speculation during one of the many iPad part leaks.
BlueFin Research Partners analyst Steve Mullane actually predicted Apple would use the A5X chip and not the A6 back on February 27th, saying that Samsung wasn’t equipped to manufacture the 28-nanometer core chips.
The one indisputable rumor appears to be the 2048 x 1536 retina display that will be on board the iPad HD/3. Confirming earlier reports, Reuters also expects support for 4G/LTE.
Apple TV will also see a new model announced with support for 1080p, providing support for new video streaming and mirroring capabilities.
