EscherArrest 270x203 iPad Exploit Finder Arrested On Drug Charges

So, there was a massive leak in iPad security on AT&T’s website, exposing thousands of email adresses. A hacker group found the exploit, and instead of being evil, waited until it was patched, and then contacted a journalist to expose the flaw. AT&T then blamed the hacker for their own security flaws.

Now, one of the lead hackers behind the ‘sploit has been arrested on drug charges. Andrew Auernheimer, who guys by Escher or Weev has been hit with four felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor possession charge for cocaine, ecstasy, LSD. This came to light after an FBI search of his home.

It’s rather sad to see a hacker who worked in the best interest of the public — releasing the information instead of selling it on for personal profit — being arrested for his work.

In related news, it now seems the leak was much more dangerous than originally supposed.
