Speculation this morning from MacRumors that perhaps the iPad 2 will be getting Light Peak, a new optical interconnect technology that is being developed as a single universal replacement for USB, Firewire and others. All signs point to a MacBook Pro refresh by the end of this week and there is speculation the new laptops might employ this technology. So why the iPad 2?
We’ve seen a number of case manufacturers produce cases that are allegedly for the iPad 2. In the past, this has been a somewhat successful predictor of new Apple products. The cases have second mystery port, leading to speculation that we are looking at Light Peak coming to the iPad 2.
Is it possible? Sure. This is pure speculation at this point and seems very unlikely. USB port maybe?
