iOS Traffic Overtakes Mac For First Time

According to advertising agency Chitika, for the first time iOS web traffic has surpassed that of Mac OS. Now, the usual caveats apply, this is just through the sites that run Chitika ads, which is hardly all of them. But even so, if this is a representative sample, it’s a mighty impressive turning point. According to the company’s data, the two trend lines have been converging at least since August, and this month saw iOS hit 8.15% and Mac OS drop to 7.96%.

It’s not a definitive switch yet, they’re still within a few fractions of a percent of one another, but it does show an interesting trend. This also plays into the narrative that many are worried about, that Apple is placing less and less emphasis on their computer OS because the mobile one is performing so well.

Looks like the timeline is perfect for iOS 5 usage. I find myself with my iPad to my left, iMac center, and iPhone 4s to my right. Depending on what I’m doing I may be using all three. I really love the way the iPad and iPhone do word spell check, and dictionary look-ups. Mac is close, but not the same look and feel.
