iOS Source Code Points To Verizon iPhone, New iPad?

apple field test devices iOS Source Code Points To Verizon iPhone, New iPad?

BGR, ever a source of interesting tidbits, have found something interesting deep within the bowels of the iOS 4 source code. Apparently, this code checks if the hardware is of an unreleased model, and if so, allows the device to be activated without needing iTunes. The code is stripped before the OS finally ships, and is used to fieldtest devices without having to go through the iTunes rigamarole.

With every version of the iPhone, this code has been present right before launch, and is then pulled as the device is announced. This time, the numbers seem to indicate two new iPhones: the iPhone 4 is known as iPhone3,1, here’s iPhone3,2 and 3,2; as well as a new iPad.
