Developers are starting to see signs of iOS 7, Apple’s next generation software. The new software is currently showing up in usage logs along with new iPhone hardware. iPhone 6,1 is the identifier for the new hardware and it is also the iPhone running iOS 7. It’s not surprising that Apple is testing both new hardware and software, but the timing appears to be earlier than usual. If hardware is being tested already, it could pave the way for a return to the summer release schedule for iPhone hardware. New hardware coupled with what is likely an update to iOS 7.
Apple’s iPhone 5 uses the unique hardware identifier iPhone 5,1 or iPhone 5,2, dependent upon the carrier and LTE bands. As for the logs, TheNextWeb have seen them and surmised that Apple is testing popular applications in Cupertino using this new iPhone and iOS 7. Again, not surprising for employees to test mainstream apps with latest software builds. The developers were not able to glean anything from the logs related to hardware and possible software features.
Apple’s annual WWDC takes place in June, where we could see a developer beta release of iOS 7 and quite possibly a new iPhone.
