If you’ve been frantically hitting “Check For Update” on iTunes, you’re probably used to seeing “the iPhone software update could not be contacted”, but according to 9to5Mac, the iOS 5.1 update is live, and here are some download links. If you’re a jailbreaker of any sort, hold off on downloading that until you hear something to the contrary from the hacking community.

Here’s a list of changes:

- Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
- Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
- Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
- Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
- Redesigned Camera app for iPad
- Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
- Audio for TV programs and films on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
- Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for iPad
- Addresses bugs affecting battery life
- Fixes and issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls

Likewise, iTunes 10.6 is expected to land in the near future, but we’re not quite sure precisely when.

iTunes 10.6 is now live, and as mentioned by KrakaJap, iOS 5.1 is working just fine through OTA updates.

It works fine if you do OTA update. Updating over iTunes has been failing for a while now.

  2. Did mine over the cloud. Worked first time and was fairly fast.
