Instagram has always had a relatively light web presence. While you can see images online, the social side of things has been sadly lacking — which lead to the rise in alternative viewers like Webstagram. Now, Instagram has gone and overhauled the web side of things, and while it’s better, it’s still a long way from good.
If you hit a link to someone’s photo on Instagram now, you’re taken to a page where you can comment on and like photos — as demonstrated by this image I snapped covering Gencon last year. As you can see, you can easily view what people have had to say, and who likes it, which is grand, but there’s still no way to get to someone’s photostream or profile. In other words, you can only really view the single image that you’ve been linked to.
Regardless, it’s an aesthetically pleasing redesign, and perhaps a sign that Instagram will push beyond just the smartphone market in the near future.
