After mounting reports of iMessage problems, with text messages not getting sent, Apple tonight confirmed that glitches affecting the service would be addressed in a upcoming software update. This is most likely iOS 7.0.3 which has been rumored to be in testing and has been seen our web logs. Messages appear to get sent, but later a red exclamation point shows differently.
Apple issued the following statement to the Wall Street Journal:
“We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes impacted users.”
An interim fix involves either restarting your device or taking these steps:
- Disable iMessage
- Reset Network Settings (Settings > General > Reset Network Settings)
- Re-enable iMessage
Have you experienced problems with iMessage? Are you on iOS 7, 7.0.1 or 7.02? Have these fixes worked for you?
