If you’re willing to include tablet computers like the iPad, Apple has suddenly jumped from its previous place near the bottom of the pack for computer sales, up to number three. Once the ultra-popular portable is taken into account, Apple improves from seventh highest seller of laptops, and leaps over Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Dell, all of whom are major players on the portable computer market.
Apple hasn’t traditionally fared very well in computer sales compared to other manufacturers, and while MacBooks may seem ubiquitous at your local Starbucks, internationally they’re pretty slow movers. The iPad is obviously such a strong seller, that it’s capable of significantly boosting numbers for Apple, this last quarter saw the company sell more iPads than MacBooks. It remains to be seen if these numbers are sustainable.

While the iPad is a hip and fun device, it does not replace a laptop. Once the novelty effect wears off, I doubt it’s sales figures are sustainable.
The iPad is definitely not in the same category. People just want to justify the price that they paid for it.
I think the iPad could be but it has to have native functions similar to a laptop like flash, print option, word processing and other things that laptops come pre equipped to do without the need to search an app for that.
Congrats to Apple. Their products are amazing. From their desktops, to their Macbooks, the Ipad, Ipod and and the amazing Iphone 4 they deserve all of their success. I am a proud Iphone 4 owner and a Macbook Pro owner and planning on getting the Ipad 3g within a month or so. I have never been disappointed with any of their products. i never came across the problem like other ppl say, and watching movies on the go with aneesoft converter to iphone4 is really fun:)
