In advance of today’s iOS 5 release, the iCloud website has been updated, removing the “beta” modifier from the frontpage. Now comes the confusing part as everyone tries to register, and attempts to figure out which account to use if they had separate MobileMe and iPhone AppleIDs.
My experience was that it would let me login to the iCloud homepage using my normal AppleID with a gmail address, but I couldn’t enable it in any other applications. Maybe iOS 5 will rectify this situation. Most bizarrely it told me to find the iCloud preferences in System Preferences on my Mac, which simply don’t exist for me. I assume Mac OS 10.7.2 will be released soon to fix this.

I am confused as to what way to proceed and which step is first. I have an Apple ID (set up prior to having mobile me and a me.com email) and I have a Me.Com account. Do I use the “move” feature that is as http://www.me.com/move first? Do I use my me.com account to log into icloud? If so, then what happens with my Apple ID that was set up prior and has a different email. I also have the family me.com package and use a shared calendar for work and need to move it as well.
Yes and yes. You login to iCloud with your .me credentials. It will guide you through the update. Please note that you’ll need Mac OS 10.7.2, which right now is downloading for me at the rate of slower than dirt.
Not sure how it affects a family plan, but I’m about to find out in a few hours.
