Do you use an RFID card to get into work? Or maybe a Clipper, Charlie, or Oyster card for your local public transit system? How would you like to add your RFID chip to your iPhone? It turns out it’s possible, but a little hairy. The method is outlined at Adafruit, and while not hideously complex, it’s a bit bizarre.
The first part involves dissolving the card in acetone, which removes the plastic, but leaves the RFID and antenna unharmed. Then, it’s placed on a piece of paper, and padded with packing tape, before being inserted behind the case of the iPhone. It took a bit of fiddling for creator Becky Stern to get it working right, but she did eventually.
Assuming it scans properly, that should mean that you have the chip on your phone, and just need to tap your iPhone on the receiver for it to function. Assuming you don’t mind playing with acetone, destroying a card, and opening the back of your phone.
